WEDDING PROCEDURES FOR FOREIGNERS MARRYING IN MALAYSIA

1. Both parties must fill in the Marriage Application Form (Form D) 
without any signature. Christian name first 

2. 3 copies of each passport size photo, 3 sets of Photostat copy of international 
passport & 3 sets of Photostat copy each of birth certificate is required. All copies 
of the latter documents must be endorsed true copy by Embassy or your local 
government office in your country. 

3. Status of parties involved e Single, Divorced or Widowed must be produced and 
endorsed true copy by Embassy or your local government office in your country. 
The documents are necessary. 
*There might be charges incurred for getting documents endorsed which is at 
your own cost. 

4. Upon receipt of the above documents, they will be vetted through to ensure that 
all are correct and in order. Guest will be duly informed of outcome. 
*At this stage, guests’ reservation checked for date of arrival if all in order. 

5. Appointment will be made with the local Magistrate for the couple to sign in his 
presence when on the island at earliest date, accompanied by resort officer. 

6. Appointment will also be made with the District Officer of Langkawi, in Kuah 
Town, Langkawi, for the couple, together with a resort officer to go over there to 
apply for a Special License to get married in Malaysia. 

7. Once the Special License is received, all documents will then be sent over to the 
Register of Marriage’s office in Kuah Town, Langkawi, to be processed for 1 day. 

8. Once processed, the couple will be married the next day at the Langkawi 
Register office. Couple will be issued with a made in Malaysia Wedding 
Certificate. 
 9. A traditional Malay wedding reception at the resort compound will then be 
organised for the couple. The date of the event can even be planned after point 6. 

10. Administration (points 4-9) will take at least four days once all documentation 
are in order. For your information weekend in Langkawi falls on Thursday and 
Friday where government offices are closed. 

11. Please allow time for overseas correspondence. 

12. Once agreed, the Marriage Application Forms will be sent. 


*Legality of Marriage document is subject to individual country’s low. In Malaysia, 
this document is recognised 
*This is a Registry wedding. No religious contents are involved. 
*Only package available. 
*Formal and decent attire is required when couple attends to all the appointments. 




Options: 
 Traditional costumes (headgear & costumes) for 2 person’s ranges from RM 300.00 
upwards depending on choice.
